World music is a term which includes a wide variety of musical styles, including indigenous music, ethnic music and folk music. It can also refer to artists which incorporate both contemporary Western music and the aforementioned traditional styles.

The term gained traction in the '80s when it was used to market non-Western styles of traditional music. fRoots magazine once referred to as world music as "local music from out there". While not very precise it encapsulates the genre in a straight-forward and informative way.

Q-Asar artist Dreaming Waters incorporates traditional Lithuanian music alongside modern electronic and ambient music. Genre-crossing is a common characteristic of world music artists, although Dreaming Waters certainly does it in her own unique way.
