Techno is a style of music which developed in the mid '80s in Detroit, Michigan. Detroit techno mixed African American influences (funk, electric jazz, Chicago house) with electronic influences such as Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra and Giorgio Moroder. The original style was born out of a small group of Chicago musicians, but techno has since split into a wide array of sub-genres.

Techno is commonly instrumental music written in 4/4 time, with heavy use of repetition and intended for performance as a DJ set. Techno producers often use a four-on-the-floor bass drum pattern, and the tempo range is 120 to 150 BPM.

Notable techno acts include Umek, Paul Kalkbrenner, Adam Beyer, Carl Cox and Sven Väth.

X-Planation is an example of a Q-Asar artist which produces techno music.
