Instrumental music refers to songs composed without the use of lyrics. A broad array of styles are performed in this manner, ranging from jazz, electronic music, heavy metal, religious music and soundtrack compositions. Some definitions of instrumental music include songs which feature the human voice as a melodic or rhythmic element, as long as lyrics are not included.

Instrumental music often has less mainstream appeal than music with vocals, although there are some exceptions. Several dozen instrumental songs have hit the number one spot on mainstream charts in the US and Europe. The most recent instrumental hit in the US is Baauer's Harlem Shake. The Miami Vice Theme by Jan Hammer and Chariots of Fire by Vangelis are other contemporary examples of US instrumental number ones.

Q-Asar artists that release instrumental music include Pure Souls and Sonic Pyramid.
