Ambient music focuses on creating atmosphere and vibe rather that following traditional musical structures or formats. Genre pioneer Brian Eno famously described ambient “as ignorable as it is interesting.” Other genres may be designed to make you sit up and pay attention, but ambient music is intended to be enjoyable whether listening actively or passively.

Technological innovation allowed ambient music to develop in the 1970s in the UK. Groups such as Tangerine Dream, Cluster and Brian Eno created influential works in the genre from the early 70s onwards. The genre influenced the development of offshoot electronic genres in the 80s and 90s, such as ambient house, dark ambient and ambient trance. Aphex Twin and the Orb are examples of ambient groups which found significant commercial success in the 90s.

Some notable ambient artists on the Q-Asar roster include Dreaming Waters, Heptagon's Secret and X-Planation.
